Unlike a tie-rod cylinder, a welded body cylinder has its end caps welded directly to the barrel as a single sealed unit, which makes it more compact and better suited to handling high pressure without external tie rods getting in the way. That construction is common on mobile equipment, dump bodies, and OEM applications where space is tight and durability matters more than easy field access. The tradeoff is that a welded body can't simply be unbolted for service; accessing worn seals or a damaged rod means machining through the existing joint, which takes more specialized equipment than a standard tie-rod rebuild.
